Features of Green Rehab Projects on Enright Avenue
744 Enright Ave
- Totally insulated with blown-in insulation (R-19)- all exterior walls and roof.
- Cleaned the furnace. Existing furnace is 90%+ efficient.
- All windows are new, consisting of double paned glass (R-5).
- Installed an energy efficient central air conditioner.
- Installed an energy (Energy Star) efficient dishwasher.
- Caulked all cracks on exterior surfaces.
- Use of recycled carpeting in the basement finished area.
- Cleaned and tested existing gas stove/oven.
- Used both recycled and reused paint for some of the painting.
- Installed a new crushed limestone driveway.
- All light bulbs replaced with energy saving CFL light bulbs.
- Weather-stripped all exterior pre-existing doors.
- Installed a new Energy Star rated hot water heater and wrapped it in a hot water heater blanket.
- Rehabbed existing low flow toilets.
- Refinished the 2nd story hardwood floors with Bioshield Hard Oil #9 and Resin Floor Finish #44.
- Cleaned the existing carpets within the residence.
- Installed a low flow showerhead.
- Recycling bin provided for residence use.

- Energy Star
- Any product with Energy Star (which certifies that it meets certain energy savings or reduced energy use criteria), qualifies for a federal tax credit and also often for a state tax credit too.
- Recycled materials
- Increased percentage of fly ash in concrete floor
- Treated wood between concrete and other wood in basement
- 2x12’s used for joists and beams
- 2x6 roof rafters and 1x6 sheathing from original roof
- Stone salvaged from old buildings for walls, etc.
- Fill from another construction site as fill for patio
- Bricks from chimney used in deck piers
- Entire kitchen, (cabinets, appliances, counters)
- Demolition debris as our own fill (keeping out of landfill)

- Two dual flush toilets to minimize water use
- Composting toilet (no water use!)
- Raingarden removing approx. 1100 gallons / year from sewer lines
- Rainwater cistern removing 2300 gallons /year from sewer - water is used to irrigate garden instead of fresh tap water

- Basement paint warehouse started. A member of the National Council of Paint Disposition.
- Basement used construction material and appliance depot started.
- Exterior security lighting installed on rear and Enright Ave. side of building.
- CFL light bulbs installed in all common areas.
- Rebuilt entryway with rigid board insulation (R-7) started.
- 1st floor hallway carpeting is re-used from another project.
- Recycling bin provided for building use.
- 3 new 90-gallon garbage cans purchased for use at building.
- Bled the hot water heating boiler system, flushed the system, refilled and re-initialized the system.
- ~50 volunteer work hours invested so far.

3647 West 8th Street - Storefront
- Installed 4 ceiling fans
- Built an air-locked internal front entryway.
- All external walls insulated with rigid board insulation (R-7) and pink insulation (R-13). Some reused pink (R-11) insulation used, in minimal amounts.
- Glass Block front wall and re-used patio doors used to replace front store windows (R-0). Patio Doors are Argon gas filled (R-8).
- Meditation Center and Zen Master Office used recycled carpet squares for flooring.
- Low VOC, Sherwin Williams's paint used throughout the structure.
- Caulked all exterior surfaces.
- CFL light bulbs installed where possible.
- Re-used lumber used where possible.
- Carbon Monoxide detector installed.
- Low flow, toilet rehabbed.
- Smoke detectors installed in both main rooms.
- Fire extinguisher installed in kitchen area.
- Hood vent installed over electric stove/oven in kitchen.
- Old unusable drywall and lumber scraps used to soundproof middle wall separating the Meditation Center from the kitchen and office area.
- Built a rear emergency exit.
- Serviced the existing furnace (it's only a 60% efficient), plans are to replace with a 94%+ when we receive a grant.
- ~100 volunteer work hours invested in the deconstruction and the painting of.
